OUR STORY
For us, cooking isn’t just about food—it’s about honoring tradition and creating connections that last beyond the meal.
As early as she could remember, Selena Taylor was always in the kitchen with her grandmother. She soaked up as much knowledge and technique from her grandmother as often as she could; from soul food, to baking and casseroles, to full holiday meals. She became so versed in the art of cooking, she began to invent and create her own pallet-satisfying, signature dishes. Her love for cooking and passion for watching people enjoy her food is where the idea for Selena's Custom Kitchen was born.
As an adult Selena and her older brother partnered up and ventured into cooking at Last Thursdays, a local Portland Oregon street fair. The experience was great and the feedback and support from the community was amazing. Her love and appreciation for cooking as well as her desire for more commercial experience increased. This ultimately led Selena to volunteer her time and expertise to cook for Inner City Basketball, a non-profit that regularly hosts basketball tournaments for youth.
After numerous years of family, friends & clients inquiring if she planned on opening a restaurant, this year on Selena's birthday, June 5, 2020, the Taylor family decided to take a huge leap of faith and purchase a food cart; giving her the opportunity of a lifetime, to share family traditions and custom, one of a kind recipes with the community.
Selena’s Custom Kitchen serves as a vehicle for diversity and social change in the food industry, leading by example with authentic taste and family values!
